Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) Protocol
Gigabit Ethernet is the 1000Mb/s version of the evolving Ethernet network standard. It is typically implemented over category 5 copper cabling, however optical media is also a popular implementation. Gigabit Ethernet is relatively simple with which to work and is widely implemented by many vendors into many types of equipment, including directly to the desktop.
